愛知県警 遺体保管用冷蔵庫 大幅増へ 高齢化など背景か
警察が死因を調べる必要がある遺体が増え、保管用の冷蔵庫が足りなくなる事態が起きていることから、愛知県警察本部は新年度、専用の冷蔵庫を大幅に増やす方針です。専門家は高齢化や単身世帯の増加が背景にあるのではないかと指摘しています。
自宅や路上で1人で亡くなっている人が見つかった場合など、警察は事件性がないか死因を詳しく調べます。
こうした遺体は増加傾向にあり、警察庁によりますと去年、全国の警察が取り扱った遺体は20万4184体と、統計を取り始めてから最も多くなり、愛知県内でもここ5年増加が続いています。
警察は、死因の確認が終わるまで警察署などにある専用の冷蔵庫に遺体を保管していますが、一時的に空きがなくなるケースも出ているということです。
こうしたことから、愛知県警察本部は新年度、各警察署に45台ある冷蔵庫を68台に増やし、保管できる遺体をおよそ1.6倍の120体に増やす方針で、必要な費用およそ4700万円を新年度の予算案に盛り込みました。
愛知県警捜査1課の市橋和典 検視官は、「警察が取り扱う遺体の数は年々増えているが、死者の尊厳を冒すことなく礼意も失わないことを今後も変わらず大切にして業務にあたっていきたい」と話していました。
遺体の取り扱いの問題に詳しい国立歴史民俗博物館の山田慎也 副館長は、「高齢化に加え、単身世帯が増えて1人で亡くなる可能性も高まっている中で、警察の対応が増えていると考えられる。愛知だけではなく、ほかの人口の多い都道府県でも同じ問題が起きているとみられ、警察の現場でもそれに対応する必要性が出てきている」と話しています。
