「帝国ホテル 京都」が祇園にオープン──建築事務所「新素材研究所」の榊田倫之が手がけた内装デザインにも注目
京都・祇園のシンボル、国の登録有形文化財「弥栄会館」が、帝国ホテルとしてよみがえった。
祇園の歴史的景観を継承し、会館の外観を受け継ぐ本棟と、新たに増築された北棟の2棟で構成される。外壁には、解体前の建物全体の10.6パーセントにあたる1万6387枚のタイルを「生け捕り」にして再利用した。客室を含む内装デザインを手がけたのは、現代美術家・写真家である杉本博司とともに建築事務所「新素材研究所」を率いる榊田倫之だ。 帝国ホテル初となる畳敷きの客室をはじめ、屋久杉など日本の素材を用い、伝統を現代的に落とし込んだ空間が広がる。
