OpenAIとソフトバンクG、米国内に5つのAIデータセンター Stargate年内達成へ
OpenAI、Oracle、ソフトバンクグループは23日(米国時間)、OpenAIの大規模AIインフラストラクチャプラットフォーム「Stargate」として、米国内の5つの新AIデータセンター拠点を発表した。5つの新拠点と、テキサス州アビリーン(Abilene, Texas)にある旗艦拠点やCoreWeaveとの進行中のプロジェクトを合わせると、Stargateは7GW近くの計画容量と今後3年間で4,000億ドルを超える投資規模に達する。
Stargate(スターゲイト)は、米国主導のAIインフラを構築するプロジェクトで、1月にホワイトハウスにおいてトランプ米大統領により発表。4年間で米国に10GWのAIインフラに5,000億ドル・10GWを投資するコミットメントとしていたが、当初の予定よりも早く、25年末までに達成する見通しとしている。
7月、OpenAIとOracleは、米国内で Stargate データセンターの4.5GWの追加容量を開発することに合意。今後5年間で両社間のパートナーシップが3,000億ドルを超える規模になる。新たな3拠点であるテキサス州シャックルフォード郡、ニューメキシコ州ドニャアナ郡、近日発表予定の中西部の拠点に加え、テキサス州アビリーンの旗艦拠点近郊での600MWの拡張により、合計5.5GW超の容量を提供。2.5万人超の現地雇用と米国内で数万人規模の雇用を創出する。また、追加拠点の評価も進める。
他の2つのStargate拠点は、今後18カ月で最大1.5GWまで拡張可能。これらの拠点はソフトバンクグループとOpenAIのパートナーシップにより開発され、数GW規模のAIインフラへと拡張できる。1つ目はオハイオ州ローズタウンに位置し、ソフトバンクグループによるデザインを適用したデータセンターの建設が開始されており、26年の稼働を予定。2つ目の拠点はテキサス州ミラム郡にあり、ソフトバンクグループ企業のSBエナジーとのパートナーシップにより開発される。これらの拠点は、より迅速な展開、さらなるスケーラビリティ、コスト効率の改善を実現するうえで重要なステップとしている。
5つの新拠点は、1月に開始された全米規模の選定プロセスを経て選ばれた。OpenAI、Oracle、ソフトバンクグループは、30以上の州から寄せられた300件以上の提案を検討した。今回の発表はその第1弾であり、今後さらに追加のサイトが発表される予定で、発表していた総額5,000億ドル規模の米国内AIインフラ投資コミットメントを上回る見込みとしている。
