東急、田園都市線「8500系」の吊り輪を使った照明器具
東急と東急電鉄は、2023年1月に定期運行を終了した「8500系」で使用されていた吊り輪を活用した照明器具「WA」を8月25日に発売した。150台限定で、価格は109,000円。

循環型社会の実現を目指す取り組みの一環。全国の鉄道車両などで大量かつ汎用的に利用されている吊り輪に着目し、吊り輪を活用したアップサイクル照明器具を開発した。吊り輪はこれまで、東急電鉄が定期的に開催している「鉄道お宝市」などで販売していたが、吊り輪を活用した新たな商品として販売するのは初となる。
デザインは、ロンドンを拠点に活動するデザインスタジオ「Akasaki & Vanhuyse」によるもの。8500系の記憶を照らすオリジナルプロダクトという位置づけから、吊り輪の経年変化をデザインの一部として取り入れている。
8500系は1975年にデビューした車両。新玉川線(渋谷～二子玉川園間、現在の田園都市線の一部)と営団地下鉄(現・東京メトロ)半蔵門線の相互直通運転開始に伴う乗り入れ車両として、当時使用されていた8000系をベースに、東急電鉄では最多の400両(10両編成×40編成)が製造された。
1976年には東急電鉄の車両としては唯一の「鉄道友の会ローレル賞」を受賞。田園都市線だけでなく、東横線や大井町線でも使用されたが、後継車両の5000系、2020系の導入が進んだことから、2023年1月25日をもって定期運行を終了。今後は8500系を4両編成化のうえ、本線走行が可能な動態保存車として運行することを予定している。
WAのサイズは114×120×193mm(幅×奥行×高さ)、重量は約1.2kg。光源仕様はE17系LED電球(電球色)、消費電力は1.2W。販売元は東急、製造元は斉藤照明。
