新しいトヨタの3列シートSUVが堂々登場！ プレミアムに、そしてタフに進化した4ランナーに迫る

4月9日、トヨタの北米法人は、新型「4ランナー」を発表した。
4ランナーはかつて日本でも販売されていた「ハイラックスサーフ」の流れを汲むSUVだ。
約15年ぶりのフルモデルチェンジとなった新型は、初代から数えて第6世代に進化。プラットフォームはピックアップトラックの「タコマ」やSUVの「セコイア」とおなじ「TNGA-F」を採用した。スチール製のラダーフレームを使い、サスペンションはフロントがダブルウィッシュボーン式、リヤがマルチリンク式となる。
エクステリアのうち、フロントまわりはベースとなるタコマを強く意識したデザインを採用。一部は初代と2代目を意識したデザインだ。
インテリアは、インパネ上部に8インチないしは14インチのタッチスクリーンを設置。ワイヤレスApple CarPlayおよびAndroid Autoにも対応する。メーターはデジタルタイプで、下位グレードが7インチ、上級グレードが12.3インチだ。プッシュボタンスタートのスマートキーシステムを全グレードに標準装備した。
パワーユニットは2種類で、ひとつは278psの最高出力を誇る2.4リッター直列4気筒ガソリンターボの「i-FORCE」エンジンを搭載。さらに、48psのモーターを組み合わせた「i-FORCE MAX ハイブリッド」仕様も設定する。トランスミッションはいずれも8速ATだ。
駆動方式は2WD、パートタイム4WD、またはフルタイム4WDを用意。悪路走破性を高めるため、走行モードシステムである「マルチテレインセレクトシステム」は、4WD-Highおよび4WD-Lowで機能するように変更された。結果、泥、土、砂などのさまざまな状況でホイールスピンを制御する。
運転支援システムは「Toyota Safety Sense 3.0」を標準装備。歩行者検知機能付き自動ブレーキ、ステアリングアシスト付き車線逸脱警報機能、レーダークルーズコントロール、レーン トレーシング アシストなどを含む。
グレード構成は、SR5、TRD スポーツ、TRD スポーツ プレミアム、TRD オフロード、TRD オフロードプレミアム、リミテッド、プラチナ、TRDプロ、トレイルハンターの9種類。
とくに、新設定のトレイルハンターは高張力鋼のスキッド プレート、20インチのLEDライトバー、TOYO TIRES「オープン カントリー A/T」などの専用装備によって個性を高める。
新しい4ランナーは今秋登場予定。価格などは今後明らかになる。
