9月5日、BMWは、新型「iX3」を発表した。
新型BMW iX3は、ピュアEV（電気自動車）だ。従来のBMWモデルと、まったく異なるデザインを採用したのが特徴だ。
フロントまわりでは、巨大なキドニーグリル（フロントグリル）を廃止。代わって、1960〜1970年代に発売された「ノイエ・クラッセ」と呼ぶ中型乗用車を彷彿とさせる新デザインを採用した。このグリルは環境への配慮から、クロームメッキを不使用とし、イルミネーション付きになった。
新型BMW iX3のボディサイズは全長4782mm、全幅1895mm、全高1635mm。ポルシェの新型「マカン」などに近しいサイズだ。Cd値は0.24を実現。専用設計のタイヤによって、航続距離を約40km伸ばしたという。
インテリアは、17.9インチのインフォテインメントスクリーンを中心に構成される。新開発の「パノラミックiDriveディスプレイ」にも注目。43.3インチのプロジェクターがダッシュボード全体に広がり、速度などを表示する。ステアリングホイールも新形状を採用した。
荷室容量は通常時520Lで、全てのリヤシートを格納すると1750Lに拡がる。さらに、ボンネットの下には78Lの収納スペースも用意する。
プラットフォームは、新たに開発された「Gen6」を使う。これは800Vアーキテクチャで、最大400kWの充電速度対応する
投入されるグレードのうち「50 xDrive」は、2基のモーターと新開発の108kWhニッケルマンガンコバルト（NMC）バッテリーを搭載し、満充電時の航続可能距離は約800kmに達する。従来モデルと較べ、航続距離は30%、効率は20%、充電速度は30%向上。かつ、生産コストも最大50%削減されるという。
新型BMW iX3は日本導入時期は、2026年夏頃を予定する。
