新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzは、トヨタ アルファード＆ヴェルファイアとは違う!!! 日本にやってきた最新のドイツ製ミニバンに迫る
日本に上陸したフォルクスワーゲンの新型「ID. Buzz」に、いち早く『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイル・エディターのイナガキが乗った！

フォルクスワーゲンの新型ID. Buzzが、ついに日本でも販売開始された。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzは、ピュアEV（電気自動車）のミニバンだ。ガソリンおよびディーゼルエンジンといった内燃機関搭載モデルは設定がない。
フォルクスワーゲン ジャパンの資料によれば、現時点において、日本市場で購入できる唯一の多人数乗車が可能なミニバンタイプの電気自動車という。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzは、かつての「Type 2」を彷彿とさせるデザインが最大の特徴だ。
Type 2は、ワーゲンバスの愛称で親しまれたモデル。1945年から量産を開始したフォルクスワーゲンの原点となる「ビートル(Type 1)」に続いて、1950年に量産を開始した。Type 2は、ビートルの技術に加えて、強化シャシーを採用し、ドイツ国内外で多くの需要を生み出したという。
わが国でもワーゲンバスは、未だ根強い人気を誇る。個人ユーザーに加え、移動販売車としても活躍する。そういえば、ダイハツ「ムーヴ キャンバス」もはかとなく、ワーゲンバスを想起させるエクステリアデザインだ。
最近減ったものの、一時はスバル「サンバー」といった軽ミニバンをベースに、ワーゲンバス仕様とするキットも流行った。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzのエクステリアは、ワーゲンバスのDNAが息づく。フロントまわりは、特大のVWロゴが目をひく。LEDマトリックスヘッドライト“IQ.LIGHT”も用意。フロントカメラで対向車や先行車を検知し、マトリックスモジュールに搭載されたLEDを個別に点灯・消灯の制御。幻惑を最小限に、視野(照射エリア) は最大限に確保するという。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzのリヤには、ウインカーの光が流れるように点滅するダイナミックターンインジケーターを装備。特徴的な発光パターンのLEDテールランプが、個性を高める。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzのサイドは、ショートオーバーハングのプロポーションが目立つ。ボディサイズは2種類で、ノーマルホイールベース仕様とホイールベースを約250mm伸長したロングホイールベース仕様の2種類。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzのボディサイズはノーマルホイールベース仕様が全長4715mm×全幅1985mm×全高1925mm、ホイールベース2999mm。ロングホイールベース仕様が全長4965mm×全幅1985mm×全高1925mm、ホイールベース3240mm。
日本で大人気の新型トヨタ「アルファード」および「ヴェルファイア」のボディサイズは全長4995mm×全幅1850mm×全高1935〜1945mm、ホイールベース3000mmだから、新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzのロングホイールベース仕様と近しい。
ただし、エクステリアの印象はだいぶ異なる。新型トヨタ アルファード＆新型トヨタ ヴェルファイアが威風堂々としたデザインを採用するのに対し、新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzはどことなく愛らしい。後述するパワートレインや駆動方式の違いがあるにせよ、日本製ミニバンとは大きく異なる。
新型フォルクスワーゲンID. Buzzは、海外だと商用モデルがある。日本仕様は現状、乗用モデルのみ。新型トヨタ アルファード＆新型トヨタ ヴェルファイアは、商用モデルが最初から企画されていないから、コンセプトや開発手順が大幅に異なるのだ。
