FRB新議長に元理事のウォーシュ氏 米議会上院で承認

アメリカの連邦議会上院は13日、トランプ大統領がFRB＝連邦準備制度理事会の次の議長に指名したケビン・ウォーシュ氏の人事案を承認しました。トランプ大統領が繰り返し利下げを求めるなか、イラン情勢にともなう物価上昇でむしろ利上げが必要になるのではないかという見方もあり、ウォーシュ氏は難しいかじ取りを迫られることになりそうです。

アメリカの議会上院は13日、トランプ大統領がFRBの次の議長に指名した元理事・ウォーシュ氏の人事案について採決を行い、賛成54、反対45の賛成多数で承認しました。

現在のパウエル議長の任期は、今月15日までで、ウォーシュ氏がFRBの新たな議長に就任することになります。

トランプ大統領はFRBに対し、繰り返し利下げを求めていて、ウォーシュ氏がほかの理事を説得することに期待を示しています。

ただ、先月の消費者物価指数は、イラン情勢を受けてガソリン価格などが大きく上昇し、2年11か月ぶりの高い水準となっています。

金融市場ではインフレが再加速すればFRBが利下げではなくインフレを抑え込むための利上げを行う必要が出てくるとの見方もあり、ウォーシュ氏は難しいかじ取りを迫られることになりそうです。
