『Wrangler ARCHIVES』刊行！ 藤原裕も驚愕のラインアップがここにある──ベルベルジン・ディレクター、藤原裕「ヴィンテージ百景」
ラングラーひと筋ウン十年、あるマニアの夢を叶えたコレクターブックが誕生。ラングラー本国だけでなく、日本の古着通も驚きのコレクションが一冊に収められた。

1月11日、ラングラーコレクターとして世界中のコレクターに一目置かれるRIC金丸が、書籍『Wrangler ARCHIVES』を自費出版で発行した。この本はRIC金丸が所有する珠玉のプライベートコレクションの中から厳選し、約200点を一冊に集約したアーカイブ写真集だ。高校生の頃にラングラーと出会った瞬間に”ラングラー愛”に目覚め、それ以降40年近く収集し続けている。2月に出版記念パーティが行われ、その際に親交の深い藤原裕がRIC金丸を直撃。出版の経緯や今後の展開などについて訊いた。
藤原裕（以下、藤原） 『Wrangler ARCHIVES』の発売、おめでとうございます。RIC金丸さんとは10数年前からのお付き合いで、2015年に自分がリーバイス501の書籍（『THE 501®XX A COLLECTION OF VINTAGE JEANS』WPP刊）を出版した際に「藤原くん、すごいね。よくやったね」というお言葉をいただき、すごく嬉しかったんです。その後、ラングラーの書籍作りに動いているという話を人づてに聞いていて、いつ出るのかなとずっと思っていたんです。
RIC金丸（以下、金丸） 昼間は本業（内装業）があるから、本の製作作業をする時間がどうしても就業後や仕事の合間になってしまい。その結果、予想以上に時間がかかり、8年経ってようやく出せました。
藤原 中身も大充実ですね。ジーンズなどのレディ・トゥ・ウェアだけではなく、1947年のプロトタイプのデニムから始まって、一般には流通しなかったロデオチャンピオンに贈られる50年代のチャンピオンジャケットや、ジョン・レノンが着用した名作111MJ、さらには70年代のピーター・マックスコレクションなど、多彩なラングラーのアイテムが載っているところが素晴らしいです。誰が読んでも楽しめる1冊だなと思いました。これは、掲載されているアーカイブがRICの金丸さんのみのプライベートコレクションによるものだからこそ、実現できたのだと思います。個人的に初めて見るアイテムも掲載されていて、資料としての価値も非常に高いと感じました。
金丸 自分が時間をかけて集めてきた家族同然ともいえるコレクションが、こういう形で見ていただけるのは本当にありがたい。製作期間中は、実務的な面では大変なことはあったけど、基本的には大好きなラングラーのためにやっていたことだから、時間こそかかったけど楽しく作ることができました。
藤原 金丸さんが理想としていた作品集が、ほぼ具現化できたのではないですか？
金丸 まだ理想ではないです。例えばプロトタイプのジーンズを筆頭に、色んな都合で載せたいものが却下せざるをえなかったり、あとページ数の制約など、自分の中ではまだまだ納得できていない部分も多いんです。2年後がちょうどラングラー誕生80周年なので、そのタイミングで『Wrangler ARCHIVES Vol.2』の刊行を構想しています。すでにアイデアや構想が頭の中にあるから、まもなく着手しようと考えています。
藤原 それは楽しみです。今回の『Wrangler ARCHIVES』は、間違いなく次に繋がる1冊になったんじゃないかと思います。これが出たことで、ヴィンテージデニムやラングラーファンの動きが活発になって、コレクターさんの中から「この本に載ってないものを持ってから次作で載せてほしい」という声も出てくるかもしれません。ラングラーに関する新説や、幻のアーカイブをぜひ拝見したいです。
金丸 ラングラーって、リーバイスやリーと比べるとマイナーな印象がありますが、それと魅力は比例しません。ブランドとして、みなさんが思っている以上に面白い。実際、アメリカにおける”メンズデニムの象徴”といえば圧倒的にラングラーですし、デニムブランドとして世界で初めてデザイナーを採用して注目を集めるなど、当時から先進的な取り組みをしていました。70年代に入るとカウボーイウェア以外のアイテムを展開し、ファッションやカルチャーシーンに多大な影響を与えています。深堀りすればするほど、もっとラングラーを好きになるはずですし、きっと市場価値も高まるはず。今回の発刊をきっかけに、さらにラングラーの魅力をより広めたいですし、何よりラングラーに恩返しができたらいいなと思っています。
藤原 では2年後の『Wrangler ARCHIVES Vol.2』、いまから期待してます！ 8年後じゃないですよ（笑）！
