スマートフォンなどの位置情報の精度を高め、防災などの分野でも活用される日本版GPS衛星「みちびき」の7号機が11日午前、鹿児島県の種子島宇宙センターからH3ロケットで打ち上げられる予定で、最終的な準備作業が進められています。

日本版GPS衛星とも呼ばれる「みちびき」の7号機を載せたH3ロケット9号機は、10日午後2時ごろ種子島宇宙センターの組み立て棟から出され、およそ400メートル離れた発射地点に移されました。

打ち上げに向けた最終的な準備作業が進められていて、天候などに問題がなければ、ロケットは11日午前4時23分31秒に打ち上げられ、およそ29分後に衛星を切り離し予定の軌道に投入することになっています。

「みちびき」は、GPSのような位置を特定する機能を持つ人工衛星で、現在、日本付近の上空で5機が運用され▽スマートフォンなどの位置情報の精度の向上や▽電波が通じない場所での緊急地震速報の配信などにも役立てられています。

政府は海外の衛星に依存せずに位置情報を提供できる7機体制を整備する計画ですが、去年12月のH3ロケットの打ち上げ失敗で「みちびき5号機」が失われたことから、まずは今回の「みちびき7号機」の打ち上げを成功させ、本来の計画より1機少ない6機での運用を目指すことにしています。
