ここまで聞いて、ホンダ・センシング360＋が本当に便利な機能なのかどうか、わからなくなった読者もいるのではないか？
私も慣れるまではいちいち手順を再確認しながら操作したので煩わしい側面もあったが、30分ほど乗るうちに自然と操作できるようになった。きっと、アコードのオーナーであれば、煩わしさよりもシステムがアシストしてくれる利便性や安心感を実感できるようになるだろう。
ホンダ・センシング360＋の優位性はほかにもある。
高精度地図データの搭載により車線内のどこを走っているかまでシステムが把握できるようになったことで、たとえば、大型車の脇を通過する際には、車線内で少しだけ反対側に移動して大型車とのギャップを広げる。結果、安心感の向上につながった。
トンネルのなかでも継続してハンズオフ機能が使えることもホンダ・センシング360＋のメリットといえる。従来のハンズオフ機能は、トンネルに入ると自車位置を見失ってしまうためハンズオフ機能がキャンセルされてしまうことが多かったが、ホンダ・センシング360＋は人工衛星の測位情報を使わなくても、一定の距離内であれば自律的に自車位置を検出できるため、トンネル内でも継続してハンズオフを使える。これは大きなメリットといっていいだろう。
新型ホンダ アコードe:HEV Honda SENSING 360＋にはドライバーのモニタリング機能が追加された。この機能は万一ドライバーが気を失った場合にも、ホーンを鳴らすとともにハザードランプを点滅させながら同一車線内に停止する。これも他社からすでに製品化されているものの、二次的な事故の防止に効果がありそうだ。
また、こちらは運転支援機能とは関係のない装備だが、新型ホンダ アコードe:HEV Honda SENSING 360＋にアクティブノイズキャンセラーを搭載したのもニュースのひとつ。しかも、キャビンに設置したマイクに加え、4本のタイヤ周辺にも振動を検出するセンサーを設置。より精度の高いノイズキャンセリングを実現したという。
