ソフトバンク、上空から大容量5G通信に成功 HAPS想定
ソフトバンクは、成層圏通信プラットフォーム(HAPS、High Altitude Platform Station)向けの大容量のペイロード(通信機器)を新たに開発し、上空からの5G通信の実証実験に成功した。今後も改良を進め、さらなる大容量化とHAPSの商用サービスでの実装を目指す。

新たに開発された6セル対応の大容量ペイロードは、HAPSとスマホなどの携帯端末の間を結ぶ「サービスリンク」(1.7GHz帯)の装置と、HAPSとゲートウェイ(基地局と接続した地上局)の間を結ぶ「フィーダリンク」(26GHz帯)の装置を結合させたもの。
6月に東京都の八丈島で実施した実証実験では、高度3,000mに滞空する軽飛行機に今回開発したペイロードを搭載して通信を中継させることで、基地局と携帯端末間のエンド・ツー・エンドの5G通信と、6セルのフットプリント固定技術の実証に成功した。
フットプリント固定とは、機体の旋回によって位置や姿勢が変化しても、ペイロードからの電波の向きを調整し、地上の通信エリアを維持・安定させる技術。
実験により、今回開発したペイロードが、上空から広域で、安定した通信サービスを提供できることが実証された。
スループットの測定では、軽飛行機の旋回の中心から15kmの地点で下り平均約33Mbpsを達成。通信エリアの端でも5G通信が可能なことが確認された。
この計測地点は、エリア半径100kmの地点における高度20kmのHAPSの機体の仰角(地上から機体を見上げた時の角度)と同等なため、「HAPSのカバーエリア端に相当する地点でも通信を維持できる見通しが得られた」としている。
