NTT、IOWN APNをプラグ&プレイで使える新技術
NTTは、IOWN オールフォトニクス・ネットワーク(APN)について、動画配信事業者などがスポーツ中継などを行なう際、必要に応じてオンデマンドでAPNを利用できる仕組みを開発し、その技術実証に成功した。APNに利用者が専用機器を取り付けるだけで、従来は必要だった専門の作業員による作業が不要になる。

現在、ユーザに光パスを提供する際には、作業者を現地に派遣してデータ送受信機を設置するとともに、作業者とオペレータが連携して「光パス(光信号の送信機から受信機までをつなぐ光信号の通り道)」の設定作業を実施する必要がある。より手軽にAPNを利用できるようにするためには、作業員を現地に送らず、APNに接続するだけで自動的に接続を検知して光パスを設定する仕組みが必要になる。
また、より広範囲で光パスを提供するには、既存ネットワークに施設されているAPN以外のさまざまな光ファイバを経由する必要もある。光ファイバの種類によって最適な波長はことなるため、光パスの波長を変換する仕組みも必要になる。
これらの課題を解決するためにNTTが開発したのが、「Photonic Gateway(Ph-GW)」「Photonic Exchange(Ph-EX)」「APNコントローラ」という3つの要素技術になる。
ユーザーが専用のデータ送受信機を「Ph-GW」に接続すると、それを検知したAPNコントローラ」がオンデマンドでの光パスの開通要求を送信。APNコントローラは、Ph-GWから受信した光パスの開通要求に応じて、Ph-GW、Ph-EX、データ送受信機にパス設定要求を送信することで、関連する光伝送装置をリアルタイムで制御し、オンデマンドに光パスを設定して開通できる。既存の光回線を経由する際にはPh-EXが伝送波長帯の一括変換を行なうことで経路を確保する。現時点では光パスが開通するまでの時間は210秒。
これらの技術により、映像配信事業などでAPNを利用する際、事業者が自身で専用機器を接続するだけで利用できるプラグ&プレイ環境を提供。中継現場から送信された大容量データを、複数の作業拠点でも容易に編集できる高速回線をこれまでより容易に提供可能になる。NTTでは本機能を利用したサービスについて、2028年度以降の商用化を目指している。
