JR東日本は、築78年を迎え、老朽化が進んでいる釜石線小佐野駅について、建設用3Dプリンターを活用した建替え工事を実施する。建設用3Dプリンターによる駅舎の施工はJR東日本管内では初。また、建設現場に3Dプリンターを設置し、現地で直接造形する施工方法は、駅舎として日本初となる。
小佐野駅は岩手県釜石市に所在する駅で、釜石の山間部と海辺をつなぐ位置にある。新駅舎では、「山から海へ流れる風のみち」をコンセプトとし、風を感じられるよう外壁の表情を計画している。
駅住所は釜石市小佐野町1丁目6-1。構造・規模は鉄筋コンクリート造、平屋建て。延床面積は約7.5m2。工事着手は10月、新駅舎利用開始は2027年3月を予定している。
JR東日本は今回の工事を通じて、デジタル技術によるデザイン性向上、自動化による施工品質の平準化、省人化等、鉄道建築における新たな施工方法の可能性を検証する。
なお、世界初の建設用3Dプリンターを活用した駅舎は、JR西日本 紀勢本線 初島駅(和歌山県有田市)で、25年7月22日に利用開始した。
