ウェザーニュースは、緊急地震速報が発表された際に、現在地への揺れの到達予想までの残り秒数をリアルタイムでカウントダウン表示する機能を実装した。ウェザーニュース会員が利用できる。地震発生時、揺れが届くまでに10秒以上の猶予があればテーブルの下など安全な場所へ移動でき、5秒以上でも頭を守る姿勢をとることができると言われていることから、1秒でも早い避難行動につなげるため搭載された機能。緊急地震速報が発表されると、従来の推定震度表示に加え、ユーザーがいる場所に「あと何秒で揺れが到着するか」をリアルタイムでカウントダウン表示する。地震情報以外のページを開いている状態でも画面上にポップアップで表示される。同社は、「あと何秒で揺れるか」を把握することで、心理的なパニックを抑え、冷静・迅速な初動対応に移ることが可能になるとしている。
