辺野古沖の転覆事故 “波が高くなりやすい場所” 海上保安本部

アメリカ軍普天間基地の移設工事が行われている沖縄県名護市辺野古沖の海上で、研修旅行で訪れていた京都府の高校の生徒たちを乗せた船が転覆して生徒など2人が死亡した事故で、現場は海底の地形から波が高くなりやすい場所だったことが海上保安本部への取材で分かりました。海上保安本部は高波を受けて転覆したとみて事故の詳しい状況を調べています。

アメリカ軍普天間基地の移設工事が行われている名護市辺野古沖の海上で16日、研修旅行の一環として見学に訪れていた京都府にある同志社国際高校の2年生の生徒たちを乗せた2隻の船が転覆し、17歳の女子生徒と71歳の男性船長が死亡し生徒2人がけがをしました。

転覆した2隻は、ふだんは移設工事に対する抗議活動で使われている船で、抗議活動を行っている市民グループによりますと、16日は生徒たちを船に乗せて海域に広がるサンゴ礁や埋め立ての状況などの説明を行っていたということです。

周辺で警備にあたっていた船が撮影した映像などから、2隻は高波を受けて転覆したとみられていますが、現場は水深が急に浅くなっているため波が高くなりやすい場所だったことが第11管区海上保安本部への取材で分かりました。
