京都アニメーション社長 八田英明さん死去 76歳
「京都アニメーション」を国内有数のアニメ制作会社に成長させ、2019年に社員36人が犠牲となった放火殺人事件からの会社の再建に尽力した社長の八田英明さんが先月亡くなりました。76歳でした。
妻が1981年に創業した「京都アニメーション」を1985年に法人化して社長に就任しました。
当初は「仕上げ」と呼ばれる色塗り作業の下請けを行っていましたが、設備の拡充や人材の育成に力を入れて、「涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱」や、「けいおん！」などの作品を相次いでヒットさせるなど国内有数のアニメ制作会社に成長させました。
7年前の2019年7月に京都市伏見区にあった第1スタジオで発生した放火殺人事件では社員36人が亡くなって、32人が重軽傷を負い、遺族やけがをした社員への支援に取り組むとともに、会社の再建に力を尽くしました。
会社の代理人弁護士によりますと、八田さんは先月16日に病気のため亡くなり、告別式は家族で行われたということです。
八田社長が亡くなったことを受けて、京都アニメーションは「故人は1985年の弊社設立から40余年にわたり『よってたかって作る』を合言葉に真摯（しんし）なアニメーション制作を軸とした人を大切にしたエンターテインメント企業を志し、社長の任を果たしてまいりました。社員一同、故人の想いを受け継ぎ、これからも世界中の皆さまに楽しんでいただける作品をよってたかって作ってまいります」などとコメントしています。
