今回の地震で震度6強の揺れを観測した熊本県八代市では、倒壊した住宅に閉じ込められた女性を地域の住民たちが協力して救出する映像が残されていました。

7月28日の地震の直後、八代市興善寺町でひとり暮らしの90代の女性が倒壊した住宅に閉じ込められ、地域の住民たちが救出にあたりました。

住民の中には農業分野の特定技能の在留資格を持つベトナム人もいて、協力してがれきを取り除くなどしておよそ30分後に女性を救出しました。

地震が発生してからおよそ20分後に撮影された映像には、「今、助けますからね」とか、「大丈夫ですよ。力を抜いてください」などと女性を励ましながら助け出すまでの一部始終が残されていました。

救助にあたったレ・フイ・トゥアンさん「地震はとても怖かったですが、いつも優しく声をかけてくれたおばあちゃんを何とか助けることができてよかったです」

女性を病院に搬送した西田和徳さん「ベトナムの若者たちがいなければ、女性を助けることはできなかった。痛みを訴えていた女性を病院に届けた瞬間、助かってよかったと思った」
