秋田県横手市の市民の憩いの場として知られる横手公園ではソメイヨシノやヤマザクラなど桜の花が満開となり、早朝から多くの市民や観光客が花見に訪れています。

横手市中心部にほど近い横手公園は今からおよそ500年前に横手城が築かれ、戊辰戦争の時には仙台藩や庄内藩との激戦の舞台になるなど、古くから横手市民のシンボルとして親しまれています。
市によりますと、広さ38.9ヘクタールの敷地にソメイヨシノやヤマザクラなど少なくとも1000本以上の桜の木が植えられているということです。
