地元ニュース局によると、4月21日の午前5時30分、地元住民が設置していた防犯カメラに、当時の様子が捉えられた。映像には、赤いシャツにオレンジのズボンを着用し、スケートボードを手に持つ男の姿が映っている。
地元当局は、Xで事件を捜査中であることを報告。「動物虐待は容認されるものではなく、当地域では許容されない」とつづると共に、情報提供を呼び掛けた。
米動物保護団体「動物の倫理的扱いを求める人々の会（PETA）」は、団体のウェブページで防犯カメラに映った男の姿を公開した。男の逮捕と有罪判決につながる情報、および犬の居場所に関する情報に対して、最大5000ドル（約71万円）の懸賞金を支払うことを発表。地元の動物保護センターへの連絡を呼びかけた。
