兵庫県豊岡市の竹野海岸では、タツノオトシゴの仲間「ヒメタツ」が繁殖の時期を迎え、オスとメスのペアが尾を絡ませて仲よく泳ぐ姿が見られました。

豊岡市の竹野海岸は、生き物のゆりかごとなる海藻などが多く生息していて、豊かな生態系が保たれています。

この地域に生息しているタツノオトシゴの仲間「ヒメタツ」は、外敵から身を守るために周囲の環境に合わせて体の色を変えることからダイバーの間で「かくれんぼの名人」と呼ばれ、親しまれています。

3月下旬から繁殖活動が始まり、水深およそ10mの海底では全長およそ7センチほどのオスとメスが尾を絡ませながら泳ぐ様子や、卵でおなかが膨らんだメスの姿などが確認されました。

メスのおなかにある卵はオスが受け取り、ふ化するまでオスがおなかの中で大切に育てるということです。
