任期満了に伴う国民民主党の代表選挙には、届け出順に橋本幹彦衆議院議員と玉木代表の2人が立候補しています。

2020年の結党以来代表を務める玉木氏に当選2回の橋本氏が挑む構図で、選挙戦では政権与党との向き合い方や組織のあり方などをめぐって論戦が交わされました。

玉木氏が「対決より解決」を掲げ政策本位で与党ともできる協力はすると訴えたのに対し、橋本氏は政権交代を目指し「解決のために対決すべきだ」と主張しました。

代表選挙は、党所属の国会議員と地方議員、それに全国の党員・サポーターに割り当てられたポイントの合計で争われ、6日午後、都内で開かれる臨時の党大会で国会議員による投票が行われます。

そして、郵便かインターネットで投票した地方議員と党員・サポーターの票と合わせて結果が発表され新たな代表が選出されます。
