“エイズ対策 日本が果たす役割継続を” 感染症専門家ら要望
アメリカのトランプ政権が世界のエイズ対策への支援停止を続けた場合、エイズによる死者などが大幅に増加する可能性があるとして、感染症の専門家らが12日、日本が対策に果たす役割を継続するよう求める要望書を政府に提出し、積極的な国際貢献の必要性を訴えました。
国内外の感染症の研究者などでつくる「アジア太平洋エイズ・重感染症会議」が12日から都内で開催されるのにあわせ、共同議長をつとめる国際医療福祉大学の田沼順子教授らが12日、政府に国際的なエイズ対策に日本が果たす役割を継続するよう求める要望書を提出しました。
田沼教授らは厚生労働省で記者会見し、世界的なエイズの対策や研究を主導してきたアメリカのほか、ヨーロッパの複数の国でも予算の削減が進み、一部の地域で予防や治療がとどこおるおそれがあると指摘しました。
そのうえで田沼教授は「世界の公衆衛生分野やエイズ対策において日本が積極的な役割を果たすとともに他国にも同じような取り組みを促すことが重要だ」と述べ、財政的な支援についても安定的に行うことが必要だと訴えました。
国連は、4年後までにエイズに関連する死者は420万人増え、新規感染者も660万人以上増えるという推計を公表しています。
田沼教授は「国際的な感染症対策に貢献することがエイズだけでなく、次のパンデミックへの備えにつながるのでは」と話していました。
