皇居の庭園として一般に公開され、多くの観光客が訪れる東御苑に、カフェなどを併設した新たな施設が完成し、30日に記念の式典が開かれました。

旧江戸城の本丸跡などを皇居の附属庭園として整備した東御苑は、無料で一般に公開され、年間210万人以上が訪れる観光スポットとなっています。

これまで休憩スペースが少なかったことから、宮内庁は大手門の近くに新たな休憩用の施設を建設し、11月3日のオープンを前に、30日、記念の式典が開かれました。

「大手休憩所」はのべ2800平方メートルの木造平屋建てで、皇居で唯一のカフェが併設されているほか、ソファーが並べられた休憩スペースでは、大画面に日本各地の四季の映像が映し出されています。

皇室の活動を紹介するコーナーに加え、日本の文化や観光情報を紹介するコーナーもあり、タッチパネル式の画面で、英語など7つの言語による解説を見ることができます。

宮内庁は「皇居を訪れた人たちにとって、ほっと息をつける場所や、皇室関連の情報提供の拠点となることで、世代や国境を越えて多くの人々に親しまれる施設となることを期待しています」としています。
