7月17日、三菱は、新型ミッドサイズSUV「デスティネーター」を世界初披露した。
新型三菱デスティネーターの商品コンセプトは、「The Confidence Booster for Energetic Families（いきいきとした家族が自信を持って一歩踏み出せるよう後押しするSUV）」。ドライバーや一緒に過ごす大切な家族が新たな目的地（destination）へ踏み出す後押しをしたい、という想いを込めて、デスティネーター（DESTINATOR）と名付けたという。
生産場所は、インドネシアにあるミツビシ・モーターズ・クラマ・ユダ・インドネシア（所在地：西ジャワ州ブカシ県）となる。
新型三菱デスティネーターは、クロスオーバーMPV「エクスパンダー」、コンパクトSUV「エクスフォース」に続くインドネシア発の世界戦略車の第3弾として、アセアン地域を中心にグローバルに展開される。
デザインコンセプトは、「GRAVITAS & DYNAMISM」。フロントノーズは水平基調としながら豊かな厚みを持たせ、堂々とした佇まいとした。さらに、すべてのピラーをブラックアウトし、キャビンを滑らかな面で包み込み、広々とした室内空間をよりいっそう強調したという。ボディサイズは全長/全幅/全高（mm）：4680 x×1840×1780。ホイールベースは2815mmだ。
荒れた路面や激しい降雨により水に覆われた路面でも安心して走行できるよう、214mm（アンダーカバーを含めない場合、244mm）の最低地上高と見晴らしの良い前方視界を確保。また、21.0度のアプローチアングルと20.8度のランプブレークオーバーアングル、25.5度のデパーチャーアングルを実現した。
フロントまわりにはデザインコンセプト「ダイナミックシールド」を採用。フロントグリルを、左右バンパーでプロテクトする造形と立体的に一体化させた。加えてフロントグリル、ランプ、バンパーを水平・垂直基調のデザインで構成し、力強さと安定感をさらに強調した。フロントグリルは、ハニカム形状のインナーグリルを透明なアクリルのアウターグリルで覆う立体的なデザインとする。
リヤには、往年のパジェロが装着していた背面式スペアタイヤをモチーフとした六角形のデザインコンセプト「ヘキサガードホライズン」を配置。さらに、テールゲートを張りのある豊かな面構成とした。
灯火類のうち、フロントのデイタイムランニングランプとリヤのテールランプは、LEDをT字型に発光させる。ランプの造形は縦基調だ。
足まわりには、18インチの大径タイヤを履く。フロントとリヤの大型スキッドプレートとサイドプロテクターによって、プロテクト感と堅牢性を表現したという。
