Meta、Meta QuestのOSを他社に開放 ASUSやレノボ、Xboxがヘッドセット
Metaは22日、VRヘッドセット「Meta Quest」のOSををサードパーティのハードウェアメーカーに開放する新たな戦略を発表した。「Meta Horizon OS」としてASUSやレノボ、Xbox(Microsoft)にOSを提供し、Meta Quest 3と同様にQualcommのSnapdragonを活用したハードウェア開発を可能とする。

GoogleがAndroidをサードパーティに開放するように、Meta QuestのOSを他社も利用可能にするもの。ユーザーは、より多くのヘッドセットの選択肢を得られるほか、開発者にはより大きなエコシステムを提供可能とする。
Meta Horizon OS上では、VRヘッドセットのための多くの機能やフレームワークを提供。OSに組み込まれたコンテンツのおすすめ表示や収益化プラットフォームにより、コンテンツを収益化も可能となる。これにはMeta Quest ストアが含まれ、名称も「Meta Horizonストア」に変更する。
Meta Questデバイスに搭載されるるHorizonのソーシャルレイヤーは、新しいエコシステム全体に拡張。複数の仮想空間で、人々のアイデンティティやアバター、友人のグループを移動できるようになる。
Metaは、新戦略により、複合現実市場の成長と、ゲーム、エンターテインメント、フィットネス、生産性、ソーシャルプレゼンスといったユースケースの拡大を目指す。特化型のハードウェアによる新たな機会を創出するとしている。
ASUS Republic of Gamersは、新しい性能のゲーミングヘッドセットを開発。レノボ は、Oculus Rift Sを共同デザインした経験や、ThinkPadノートパソコンシリーズのような主要なデバイスのエンジニアリングにおける知識を活かし、生産性や学習、エンターテインメントのための複合現実デバイスを開発予定。
Microsoftは、Xboxにヒントを得た限定版のMeta Questに共同で取り組んでいるという。
