au Starlink Direct、iPhoneが米国でのローミングに対応
KDDIと沖縄セルラーは、衛星とスマートフォンの直接通信サービス「au Starlink Direct」において、iPhoneが米国での海外ローミング接続に対応したと発表した。新たに、iPhone 13～iPhone 17とiPhone Airを含む計22機種のiPhoneが対応している。
米国は国土が広く、地上基地局の電波が届かないエリアも存在する。KDDIは2025年11月にT-Mobileとパートナーシップを締結し、2026年3月から、「au Starlink Direct」のローミング対応によって米国渡航時の通信サービスを提供してきたが、iPhoneには対応していなかった。今回、iPhoneへ対象端末を拡大することで利便性を向上する。
