ゼニスにはエル・プリメロという偉大なヘリテージがある。いわずとも知れたハイビートを誇るクロノグラフの傑作ムーブメントであり、独創的な技術だけでなく、1980年代半ば以降のブランド復権の旗頭となった歴史を含め、いまもコアコンピタンスとしてあり続ける。その存在が大きいだけに、それに匹敵するブランドの新たな象徴を生み出しきれなかったことも否めない。しかし昨年創業160年という節目には、今後の方向性やポートフォリオがより明確になったことを印象づけた。今年の新作は、それをさらに実感させたのだった。クロノマスタースポーツは初のスケルトン仕様で最新エル・プリメロを誇示し、1940年代の精度追求の歴史を語る伝説のキャリバー135をモダンに仕立てたG.F.J.や、クロノマスターリバイバル A384にマニア好みのエイジングを施す。そこに通底するのはゼニスにしかない、時代を超越する物語性という価値である。
