新しい教皇を選ぶ選挙「コンクラーベ」の行方は
ローマ・カトリック教会のフランシスコ教皇の葬儀が26日、執り行われ、今後は、5月上旬にも始まるとみられている、新しい教皇を選ぶ選挙「コンクラーベ」の行方が注目されます。
ローマ・カトリック教会のフランシスコ教皇の葬儀は26日、アメリカのトランプ大統領やウクライナのゼレンスキー大統領をはじめとする各国の首脳などが参列する中、執り行われました。
葬儀には世界各地から多くの信者らも集まり、イタリアのメディアは、バチカンのサンピエトロ大聖堂の周辺や埋葬先のローマ市内の大聖堂までの沿道には、あわせておよそ40万人が集まったと伝えています。
今後は、教皇に次ぐ地位にある枢機卿たちによって、新しい教皇を選ぶ選挙「コンクラーベ」が行われることになります。
「コンクラーベ」は80歳未満の枢機卿たちが投票できる選挙で、原則として教皇の死去から15日から20日後までに始まることになっています。
今回は5月上旬にも始まる可能性が高いという見方が出ていますが、枢機卿が集合していれば開始を早めることも可能で、正式な日程は近く、枢機卿たちが会議で決定します。
欧米のメディアは、次の教皇の有力候補としてフランシスコ教皇の側近のピエトロ・パロリン枢機卿や、教皇の特使としてロシアやウクライナを訪問したマッテオ・マリア・ズッピ枢機卿、それに教皇に選ばれればアジア出身者として初めてとなるフィリピン出身のルイス・アントニオ・タグレ枢機卿など複数の人物の名前をあげています。
投票はバチカンのシスティーナ礼拝堂で行われ、新しい教皇が決まると礼拝堂の煙突から白い煙があがり鐘が鳴らされることになっていて、選挙の行方が注目されます。
