ソフトバンク、5G端末の出力アップ「HPUE」導入
ソフトバンクは、5GサービスにおけるHPUE(High Power User Equipment)の導入を、国内で初めて開始する。対象のホームルーター「Airターミナル6」の出力がアップされ、上り通信の安定化が図られる。今後はスマートフォンなどにも拡大予定。

HPUEは、ホームルーターやスマートフォンなどの端末の送信電力を高出力化する技術。基地局から離れた場所でも安定した上り通信を実現でき、サービスエリアの拡大につなげられる。
ソフトバンクでは、ホームルーター「Airターミナル6」を対象に、4月中旬から順次ソフトウエアアップデートによりHPUEを導入する予定。最大送信電力が23dBm(200mW)から26～29dBm(400～800mW)に向上される。これにより、サービスエリアの端など、電波が届きにくい場所でも、より安定した上り通信が利用可能になるとしている。
5Gサービスで利用される高周波数帯の電波は空間や遮蔽物による減衰が大きく、基地局から離れた場所などでは上り通信が不安定になったり、通信速度が遅くなったりするなどの課題がある。2024年9月には、上り通信の安定性の向上や効率的なサービスエリア展開を目的に、電波関連法令の整備が行なわれ、5Gサービスにおいて端末を高出力化するHPUEの導入が可能になっていた。
ソフトバンクは、まず「Airターミナル6」でHPUEを導入。今後はスマートフォンやタブレットなどにも拡大する予定。
