24日夜、新潟県阿賀野市で行われていた祭りで、大勢が担いだ巨大な灯籠どうしを押し合う催しの最中に、参加していた男子高校生が、灯籠とアーケードの柱の間に挟まれて死亡しました。

24日午後8時すぎ、阿賀野市中央町のアーケード街で行われていた「水原まつり」で、大勢が担いだ巨大な灯籠どうしを押し合う催しの最中に、担ぎ手だった地元の高校3年生、新保慶人さん（18）が灯籠と柱の間に挟まれました。

大きいもので高さ2メートルあまりの灯籠を30人ほどで担ぎ、ほかの灯籠と押し合う「灯籠来舞」というこの催しでは、これまでもけが人が出ていたということです。

一方、祭りを主催する、阿賀野市などでつくる実行委員会は「詳しいことが分かっておらず、現時点ではコメントできない」としています。
