Amazon LeoのD2Dネットワークは、パフォーマンスを向上させるため軌道上で信号を処理してから中継する仕組みを採用。このD2D衛星には光通信の衛星間リンクが搭載され、コンステレーション全体で高度なトラフィックルーティングを行なえる。デジタルビームフォーミングとビームホッピング技術で最適化や電波干渉の抑制を図りカバーエリアを最大化、高い周波数利用効率を実現するとしている。
Amazon LeoはすでにVodafone、DirecTVなど海外の一部通信キャリアとパートナーシップを発表しており、今後もモバイル通信キャリアとの協働を拡大していく方針。
