天皇皇后両陛下は、弘法大師空海ゆかりの貴重な仏像や絵巻物などを集めた展覧会を鑑賞されました。

この展覧会は、空海が生誕1250年を迎えたことを記念して、NHKなどの主催で開かれていて、両陛下は18日夜、会場の東京上野の東京国立博物館を訪ねられました。

会場では、空海が開いた真言宗の、本山や関係する寺院から集めた国宝の仏像や絵巻物などが展示されています。

両陛下は、京都市の東寺が所蔵する、天皇の健康などを祈る儀式の本尊だった重要文化財の3つの仏像について、研究員の説明を受けられました。

研究員が、鎌倉時代の技術力を結集して作られた精巧な装飾などについて説明すると、皇后さまは「美しいですね」と、天皇陛下は「色もよく残っていますね」と話されていました。
