浮世絵に出てくる猫を集めた「ネコづくし」展、そごう美術館で開催
横浜のそごう美術館にて、浮世絵版画に登場する猫の姿から、猫の生き方や人との関わり方などを紹介する展覧会「Ukiyo-e 猫百科 ごろごろまるまるネコづくし」が、7月19日（土）から開催される。

今も昔も人々を魅了する猫は、美術や文学において盛んにモチーフとなってきた。古くは「源氏物語」にも登場するが、江戸時代になると猫はいっそう身近な存在として、肉筆画や浮世絵版画に多く描かれるようになる。
本展は、大の猫好きで知られる浮世絵師、歌川国芳をはじめとする浮世絵版画に登場する猫から、当時いかに猫が愛されていたかや、猫と人との関わり合いを「猫あるある」を交えて紹介する展覧会。体を丸めたり、毛づくろいをしたりする猫らしい仕草から、にんまり笑った人間味ある表情、ちょっと怖い化け猫、擬人化されたユーモラスな猫など、現代のわたしたちをも惹きつけてやまないさまざまな猫の魅力を探求する。
■個性あふれる猫たち
本展では、歌川広重、歌川国芳など江戸時代に活躍した浮世絵師から、歌川芳藤、高橋弘明といった江戸時代後期〜明治時代に活躍した浮世絵師など、総勢31名、147点の浮世絵版画を展示。浮世絵版画に描かれる猫たちは、爪とぎをしたり、大きくのびをしたりと所謂「猫らしい」姿を見せてくれる一方で、化け猫や猫又などかわいらしいだけではない、猫の姿も描かれる。このような猫の妖怪伝説は、夜行性であることや、従順ではない性質から生まれたものといえるだろう。
また人間の生活に身近な猫は、擬人化された姿もしばしば描かれる。歌舞伎役者に化けたような「猫役者絵」をはじめ、三味線の稽古に興じる猫、さらには町で商いをする姿など、さまざまな形で擬人化された猫。これらの変貌自在な猫たちからは、当時の暮らしや風俗、社会の変化を知ることができる。
