北海道 知床沖の観光船沈没事故から4年 斜里町で追悼式開催へ
北海道 知床半島沖で観光船が沈没して乗客と乗員合わせて20人が死亡し、6人が行方不明となっている事故から23日で4年です。当時、船が出港した斜里町では、乗客の家族や関係者が出席して追悼式が行われます。
2022年4月23日、知床半島の沖合で観光船「KAZU 1」が沈没した事故では、乗客と乗員合わせて20人が死亡し、乗客6人の行方が今も分かっていません。
この事故で、船を運航していた「知床遊覧船」の社長、桂田精一被告（62）が安全や運航の管理者として事故を未然に防ぐ義務を怠り、乗客と乗員を死亡させたとして業務上過失致死の罪に問われています。
検察が禁錮5年を求刑したのに対し、社長側は無罪を主張していて、ことし6月17日に判決が言い渡されます。
また、乗客の家族などが運航会社と桂田社長に合わせておよそ15億円の賠償を求める民事裁判も行われています。
事故のあと、国は運航事業者の安全管理体制や罰則の強化といった安全対策を進めていますが、船舶の事故は後を絶ちません。
