新型ホンダWR-Vの1番安いグレード、190万8000円の実力とは？ もはやN-BOXより安いかもしれないコンパクトSUVに迫る
ホンダの新しいコンパクトSUV「WR-V」の完成度は、想像以上に高かった！ 試乗したサトータケシがリポートする。

3月22日に発表されたコンパクトSUV、ホンダWR-Vが200万円台前半という価格設定で話題になっている。
今回は、用意される3グレードのなかの最廉価版、消費税抜きだと190万8000円という「X」に試乗した（税込だと209万8800円）。いまどき、オプション込みだと200万円を超える軽自動車もざらにあるわけで、この価格のWR-Vがどのくらいの仕上がりなのか、興味津々である。
外観は悪くない。コジャレたSUVがあふれた都心に置くと、飾り気のないギヤっぽい外観が好ましく思える。はやりのクーペSUVのようにエレガントなルーフラインではないけれど、屋根が真っ直ぐ伸びているぶん、後席の頭上空間は広々としている。
テールゲートを開けて驚いたのは、外観から想像するよりはるかに荷室が広いから。広いだけでなく、スクエアな形状だから使い勝手もよさそうだ。
運転席に座ると、お値打ち価格の理由がわかる。ダッシュボードやステアリングホイールに使われるザラザラとした感触の樹脂が、ちょっと懐かしい感じなのだ。昭和とは言わないまでも、平成の中頃ぐらいにタイムスリップしたような不思議な気分になる。ただし気になるのはそこだけで、スマホと連動するディスプレイオーディオなど、インターフェイスは最新だ。ちなみにWR-Vのほかの2グレードでは、ステアリングホイールは本革巻きとなる。
1.5リッター直列4気筒エンジンを始動してスタートすると、走りっぷりのよさに感心する。エンジンは極低回転域から有効なトルクを発生するから、信号待ちからのゼロ発進でかったるいと感じることはないし、高速道路の合流でも加速は充分以上。
エンジン回転が上昇している場面ではそれなりの音が聞こえるけれど、抜けのよい爽やか系の音なので、耳障りではない。エンジン回転が一定となるクルージング時は、静かだ。
ちなみに3グレードのメカニズムは共通で、エンジンは1.5リッターのみ、駆動方式もFF（前輪駆動）のみと、潔い。3グレードの価格の違いは、純粋に装備の違いである。
お値打ち価格であっても安全装備には手を抜いていないのがこのクルマの立派なところで、アダプティブクルーズコントロールと車線維持を支援する装置は確実に作動したし、オートハイビームやペダルの踏み間違い防止機能なども標準装備される。
市街地から高速道路まで、乗り心地に不満は感じない。欲を言えば、高速道路の100km/h巡航で、もう少しダンピングの効いたフラットな乗り心地だとうれしいけれど、タウンスピードでは前席のみならず後席でも快適に移動することができた。
