鹿児島トカラ列島の鳥 新種と確認 ヤンバルクイナ以来45年ぶり
鹿児島県のトカラ列島で分布が確認されていた鳥が、新種であることがわかり、「トカラムシクイ」と名付けられました。研究グループによりますと、国内で新種の鳥が確認されたのは、沖縄本島に生息するヤンバルクイナ以来、45年ぶりだということです。
新種とわかったのは、鹿児島県のトカラ列島で分布が確認されていた体長およそ10センチのオリーブ色の鳥で、これまでは昆虫を食べるムシクイ科のうち、伊豆諸島に分布する「イイジマムシクイ」と同じ種と考えられてきました。
山階鳥類研究所などの研究グループは、トカラ列島が伊豆諸島からおよそ1000キロ離れていることに着目し、2つの地域の個体群の違いを詳しく調べました。
その結果、遺伝子の配列や脚の長さ、鳴き声などに違いがあることがわかり、新種と確認されたということで、「トカラムシクイ」と名付けられました。
研究グループによりますと、国内で新種の鳥が確認され、新しい学名がつけられたのは、沖縄本島に生息するヤンバルクイナ以来、45年ぶりだということです。
山階鳥類研究所の齋藤武馬研究員は、「調べ尽くされた鳥類のなかで、隠れた新種を発見できる余地を示す貴重な結果だ。伊豆諸島のイイジマムシクイは環境省のレッドリストで絶滅危惧種に指定されていて、トカラムシクイについても外来種の天敵などに襲われるリスクがある。生息状況のモニタリングや保護の検討が必要だ」と話しています。
