ラグビー日本代表 トンガに快勝 国際大会決勝へ
ラグビーの日本代表は国際大会の「パシフィックネーションズカップ」の準決勝でトンガ代表と対戦し、8つのトライをあげて62対24で勝って決勝進出を決めました。
ラグビーの「パシフィックネーションズカップ」は環太平洋の6か国が参加する国際大会で、去年、決勝でフィジーに敗れた日本は2019年以来6年ぶりの優勝を目指しています。
最新の世界ランキングで13位の日本は、予選リーグでカナダとアメリカに勝ち、14日はアメリカのコロラド州で世界16位のトンガとの準決勝に臨みました。
日本は前半6分にトンガにモールで押し込まれて先制のトライを奪われますが、その4分後にプロップの竹内柊平選手の突破からフッカーの江良颯選手につないで同点のトライを決め、キックも決まって逆転しました。
日本はさらにトンガ出身のナンバーエイト、ファカタヴァ アマト選手やキャプテンのワーナー・ディアンズ選手がトライを取り、トンガも前半で3つのトライをあげて21対19で折り返しました。
後半は開始直後の2分にスクラムハーフの藤原忍選手がゴール前でキックパスをして、ボールを受けたディラン・ライリー選手がトライを決めてリードを広げました。
その後はトンガの選手がイエローカードで10分間の退場となったこともあり、日本が優位に試合を進め、後半だけで5つ、あわせて8つのトライをあげて62対24で快勝しました。
この試合は標高1600メートルの高地で行われましたが、日本はフィジカルが強いトンガへの対策として控えのフォワードをふだんよりも多い6人で臨み、80分通して攻守に高い強度を見せました。
決勝に進んだ日本は今月20日、日本時間の21日にフィジーとカナダの勝者と対戦します。
