YouTubeが20周年 “長押し2倍速”や誤操作防止など小ネタも
Googleは、YouTubeが20周年を迎えたことを記念し、関連する統計や新機能を発表した。イースターエッグなどとして、表立って紹介されていない機能にも言及されている。また、YouTube MusicとYouTube Kidsも10周年を迎えている。

19秒の動画クリップから始まったというYouTubeは、現在までに音楽やショート動画、ポッドキャストなど種類を拡大し、200億本以上の動画がアップロードされる規模にまで拡大した。
コメントや「いいね!」などで、クリエイターとコミュニティのつながりが活発なのも特徴。2024年には、YouTubeのユーザーは平均して毎日1億件以上のコメントを動画に残した。YouTubeの動画は、ユーザーから1日あたり35億件以上の「いいね!」を獲得。また、再生数が10億回を突破した動画は300本以上存在する。
新機能として、YouTube Premiumでは、モバイルアプリにおいて再生速度が最大で4倍になる(従来は最大3倍)。スライダーで調整すると、4倍にまで再生速度を速められる。
また、動画のどの場所でも、タップ(クリック)で長押しすると、押している間だけ2倍速で再生が可能。スリープタイマーも設定できる。
全画面表示などで不意に画面に触れて操作してしまわないよう、モバイルアプリには画面をロックする機能が用意されている。
クリエイターは、YouTube Shortsを投稿した際、関連動画として、長尺の動画やライブ配信、ほかのShortsなどを追加できる。
テレビ向けアプリは今夏にリニューアルされる予定で、より簡単な操作が可能になり、コメントやチャンネル情報の表示、チャンネル登録の操作が行ないやすくなる。
聴きたいタイプの音楽を指定するとパーソナライズされたラジオのように聴ける「Ask Music」は、利用できる言語と地域が拡大される。
YouTube Kidsの保護者は、「自分でコンテンツを承認する」モードを利用可能。保護者は子供にアクセスさせたいコンテンツを手動で選択できる。
鼻歌や歌を歌って、曲を見つけるSong Searchは、AndroidデバイスのYouTubeアプリと、YouTube Musicアプリの両方で利用できる。
このほか、デスクトップ(PCのWebブラウザ)での視聴では、キーボードショートカットとして、左/右矢印キーでの5秒早送り・巻き戻しや、スペースキーでの動画の再生・一時停止といった機能が提供されていることも紹介されている。
