電源不要な次世代ARディスプレイに新技術 東大・阪大らが開発
東京大学、大阪大学、クラスターメタバース研究所、ユニバーシティ・カレッジ・ロンドンによる共同研究グループは、次世代AR表示技術「Beaming Display(BD)」方式対応の薄型受光系を開発した。

BD方式とは、離れた場所に配置した専用プロジェクターから映像を投影し、薄く電源不要なARメガネにAR映像を提示するコンセプトの技術のこと。今回の研究成果はBD方式の新しい受光系に関するもの。
現在のメガネ型ARデバイスは、表示素子や計算ユニット、バッテリーを全て内蔵するために、装着感や性能向上には限界がある。BD方式のARメガネは、外部から映像を投影するためメガネ本体はシンプルで軽量化を実現できるが、従来は受光できる頭部角度が5度程度に限られていた。
今回の成果では、さまざまな角度から光を受光できる仕組みである「回折光学系ウェーブガイド」を採用し、約20～30度の広い角度での受光に対応。頭部を自由に動かしながら高品質な映像を安定して受光できる仕組みを実現した。
これにより、エンターテイメントや教育、製造業、医療など長時間装着が必要な作業において、利便性と性能の向上が期待できるという。研究チームはさらなる装着性の向上や、東部位置の追跡機能の統合を目指して研究を継続する。
