91歳で亡くなったイタリア・ファッション界の巨人、ジョルジオ・アルマーニは、ハリウッドのファッションに革命をもたらし、セレブリティのドレスアップのあり方を大きく変えた。そしてその結果、私たち一般人の装いにも大きな変化をもたらした。
アルマーニはまず、ソフトなシルエットでスーツジャケットの形を変え、それによって官能性を最大限に引き出すことに成功した。1980年の『アメリカン・ジゴロ』劇中で、ビバリーヒルズのジゴロを演じたリチャード・ギアが纏ったスーツジャケットがその典型である。
