7月11日、メルセデス・ベンツ日本は、特別仕様車「G450d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s」を発表した。
メルセデス・ベンツG450d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980sは、2023年にGクラスの総生産台数が50万台を記録したことを記念して企画された特別仕様車だ。
初代Gクラスのモデルコード「W460」にちなみ、世界限定460台の希少なモデルとして誕生した。そのうち、日本市場には100台を導入する。
初代Gクラス「W460」のメルセデス・ベンツ280GEに着想を得たこのモデルは、1980年代のデザイン要素を随所にまといながら、現代のテクノロジーと融合した唯一無二の存在である。
メルセデス・ベンツG450d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980sのエクステリアのうち、ボディカラーには、初代Gクラスのオプションカラーであった3色の復刻カラー（MANUFAKTURアガベグリーン、MANUFAKTURクリーミーホワイト、MANUFAKTURコロラドベージュ）を、当時の雰囲気を現代の塗装技術で鮮やかに再現した。
メルセデス・ベンツG450d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980sには、オフローダーらしいスタイルを極めるプロフェッショナルラインの装備として、PROFESSIONALマッドフラップ(リア)、オールテレインンタイヤを標準装備。さらに「G」ロゴ入りプロジェクターや「G」ロゴ入りドアボタン (ブラック)なども備わる。
復刻版のボディカラーにあわせ、Gクラスを象徴するパーツのひとつであるウィンカーランプも1980年代に主流だったオレンジ色を採用。さらに、フロントフェイス、バンパー・ホイールアーチ、ドアミラーカバーにはマットなブラックカラーを施す。
メルセデス・ベンツG450d Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980sの足まわりには、5スポークの18インチアルミホイールを履く。加えて1980年代の純正パーツを採用したシルバープレートの「Mercedes-Benz」リヤバッジ、専用デザインのスペアタイヤカバーなども備える。
