OpenAI、公益法人設立で新体制 Microsoftと提携継続
OpenAIは、従来の非営利団体としての組織運営に加え、新設する公益法人を管理する体制に移行すると発表した。非営利団体は継続するが、傘下の公益法人が1,000億ドル(約14兆7,000億円)超の株式を保有することになり、OpenAIと利益を共有、より多くの資金を慈善活動で使えるようにする。

OpenAIは非営利団体であることに強くコミットしており、今後も変わらないと表明している。一方、新設の公益法人が1,000億ドル超の株式を保有することで、OpenAIは世界有数の資金を持つ慈善団体になるという。資本の増強は「使命の達成に必要」とし、公益法人の成長で、非営利団体側の資源も増えるという体制にする。
OpenAIは「核となる使命は、AGI(汎用人工知能)が全人類に利益をもたらすことを確実にすること」と強調。司法とも連携し、安全性を最優先に強化していく方針を維持するとしている。
今後、非営利団体のOpenAIは、3つの分野(AIリテラシー、コミュニティイノベーション、経済的機会)において、非営利団体やコミュニティ組織を支援するため5,000万ドルの助成金を用意、募集を開始している。また、さらに大規模な社会貢献活動も予定している。
また、OpenAIとMicrosoftは、今後のパートナーシップに向けた非拘束的な覚書(MOU)に署名した。初期からOpenAIに投資してきたMicrosoftだが、25年に入ってから運営方針などを巡って対立が伝えられてきたが、今後も提携関係を継続。「安全への共通の取り組みに基づき、人々に最高のAIツールを提供することに注力する」としている。
