スターシップ、10回目のミッション成功 失敗の連鎖断ち切る
SpaceXは、8月26日18時30分(現地時間)、超大型宇宙輸送システム「スターシップ」の10回目となるフライトテストを実施した。打上げは無事に成功し、主要なテスト項目はすべて達成。スターシップについては9回目のフライトテストまで3回連続でのミッション失敗となっていたが、この連鎖を断ち切った形になる。

今回のテストでは、第1段ロケットのスーパーヘビーブースターが打上げ場に帰還しての着陸は行なわず、事前に設定された海上の着水地点へ移動。着水地点の上空でホバリング状態となり空中に停止することに成功した。これは、中央3基のエンジンのうち1基を意図的に停止し、中間リングにある予備エンジンを使用して行なわれた。
スターシップについては、計画通り上昇し、弾道軌道への投入に成功。その後、スターシップとして初めてペイロード(貨物)の放出に成功した。ペイロードは8台のスターリンクシミュレーター(模擬衛星)。
その後、スターシップはラプターエンジンを宇宙空間で再点火することに成功。これは将来の軌道離脱燃焼において重要な能力の実証になるという。
エンジン点火後は再突入段階に入り、スターシップは意図的に負荷をかけた状態で大気圏に突入し、性能限界に挑戦。熱シールドとその構造に関するデータを収集した。
着水前には4つのフラップで機体を制御しながらインド洋の着水地点に到着。着陸フリップ(着陸姿勢)をとることに成功し、そのまま着陸噴射をしながら軟着陸。最後は爆散したが、テストは成功した。
