茂木外務大臣は訪問先のニューヨークで、核実験を全面的に禁じるCTBT＝包括的核実験禁止条約の発効を目指す外相会合に出席し、北朝鮮による核・ミサイル開発の進展などを踏まえ、早期の発効に向けて力の限り取り組んでいくと強調しました。

CTBTは日本を含む179の国が批准していますが、アメリカや中国、イランなどが批准せず、条約の採択から30年を経た今も発効していません。

茂木外務大臣は日本時間の23日未明ニューヨークの国連本部で開かれた条約の早期発効を目指す外相会合に共同議長として出席し「北朝鮮による核・ミサイル開発の進展は重大な懸念で、一部の国による不透明で急速な核戦力の増強も看過できない。私たちは『核兵器のない世界』の実現に向けた歩みを止めてはならない」と述べました。

そのうえで、核実験の監視制度を強化していく必要性などを指摘し「早期発効と核軍縮の進展に向けて力の限り取り組んでいく」と強調しました。

そして会合では、すべての国に早期の署名と批准を求めるとともに、北朝鮮による過去6回の核実験を非難し、関連するすべての安保理決議の完全な順守を強く求めるなどとした共同声明を採択しました。
