東海道新幹線沿線にAIエッジデータセンター 遊休地活用
東海旅客鉄道、Preferred Networks(PFN)、アクティアの3社は、AIエッジデータセンターをJR東海事業エリアに設置する分散型AIインフラの構築に向け、共同検討を行なう基本合意を締結した。
近年、AIの活用において、ビッグデータをリアルタイム処理するための低遅延なAIエッジDCの重要性が高まっている。
取り組みでは、JR東海グループが保有する東海道新幹線沿線の遊休地とネットワーク、PFNが開発する国産のAI半導体「MN-Coreシリーズ」とAI関連技術、アクティアが有するサービスの企画・開発・運営に関するノウハウを掛け合わせ、国産の分散型AIインフラの構築を検討する。
これにより、駅周辺での自動運転やスマートシティ化、工業地帯でのフィジカルAIを活用したスマートファクトリー化など、AIを活用した沿線地域の価値向上に貢献することを目指す。
エッジデータセンターとは、利用者や設備の近くに配置し、データをその場で高速に処理する小規模分散型データセンター。一般的なクラウドサービスと比べ、通信遅延を抑えることでAI処理やIoTサービス、リアルタイム制御などを高効率に実現する。
