newmoとティアフォー、大阪で日本発「自動運転タクシー」事業化へ
タクシー・ライドシェアのnewmoと、自動運転システムの開発を行なうティアフォーは、日本国内における自動運転タクシーの事業化に向けた協業を開始した。

自動運転タクシーは現在、米国・中国などの一部の都市において実用化されており、米サンフランシスコではライドシェアアプリ(配車アプリ)経由の予約におけるシェアは27%に達するという。
日本政府は2027年度までに100カ所以上での自動運転移動サービスの実現を掲げているが、直近では米国や英国に拠点を置く自動運転タクシー事業者が国内都市で公道データ収集を開始しており、海外から参入する動きも加速している。
今回の協業では、ティアフォーが開発を主導する自動運転用オープンソースソフトウェア「Autoware」を活用。安心・安全な自動運転システムの社会実装に向け、自動運転タクシーの事業化に取り組む。
newmoはタクシー車両1,000台以上を保有する事業基盤を活用し、現在タクシー・ライドシェア事業を展開する大阪府内において、新たな移動の足として自動運転タクシーの展開・事業化を目指す。
またnewmoは、2024年から段階的に実施していたシリーズAラウンドの資金調達において、地域金融機関系ベンチャーキャピタルを中心とする新規投資家の支援を受け、総額179億円の調達を完了。累計調達金額は199億円に到達し、自動運転タクシー事業へ本格参入する。
