NVIDIAがIntelに7370億円投資 AIインフラ/PC向け開発で協力
NVIDIAとIntelは18日(米国時間)、半導体の共同開発についての協業を発表した。ハイパースケール、エンタープライズ、コンシューマー市場向けのカスタムデータセンターやPC製品を複数世代にわたり共同開発していく。NVIDIAは、Intel普通株に対し、1株あたり23.28ドルで50億ドル(約7,370億円)を投資する。
NVIDIA NVLinkを活用したNVIDIAとIntelのアーキテクチャの連携を進めるほか、NVIDIAのAIや高速コンピューティングの強みとIntelのCPU技術やx86エコシステムを統合し、顧客にソリューション提供していく。
データセンター向けには、IntelがNVIDIA専用x86 CPUを製造し、NVIDIAが自社のAIインフラストラクチャプラットフォームに統合して市場に提供する。
PC向けには、IntelがNVIDIA RTX GPUチップレットを統合したx86システムオンチップ(SOC)を製造・提供する。新たなx86 RTX SOCは、CPUとGPUの統合を必要とする幅広い用途での活用を目指す。
NVIDIAのジェンスン・フアンCEOは、「AIは新たな産業革命を牽引し、シリコンからシステム、ソフトウェアに至るコンピューティング・スタックの全てのレイヤーを再構築している。この変革の中核がNVIDIAのCUDAアーキテクチャ。歴史的な提携により、NVIDIAのAIおよび高速化コンピューティングスタックと、IntelのCPUと広大なx86エコシステムが緊密に連携する。これは世界トップクラスの2つのプラットフォームの融合だ。両社は協力してエコシステムを拡大し、次世代コンピューティングの基盤を築く」としている。
Intelのリップブー・タンCEOは、「Intelのx86アーキテクチャは数十年にわたり現代コンピューティングの基盤であり、我々は将来のワークロードを実現するためポートフォリオ全体で革新を推進している。Intelのデータセンター、クライアントコンピューティングプラットフォームは、プロセス技術、製造、先進パッケージング技術と相まって、NVIDIAのAIおよび高速コンピューティングにおけるリーダーシップを補完し、業界に新たなブレークスルーをもたらす」とコメントしている。
