“拉致問題を優先課題に”トランプ大統領に米超党派議員が書簡
アメリカ連邦議会の超党派の議員17人が、トランプ大統領に対して書簡を送り、日本から北朝鮮に拉致された被害者の帰国を目指して、政権の優先課題として取り組むよう求めました。
アメリカ連邦議会の共和党と民主党の下院議員17人は、今月4日付けでトランプ大統領に書簡を送りました。
書簡では、トランプ大統領が1期目の2017年に、国連総会での演説で横田めぐみさんの事例に言及したことや、拉致被害者の家族と2度にわたり面会したことなど、トランプ氏の拉致問題への取り組みを評価しています。
そのうえで、「北朝鮮との対話を通じて、残る拉致被害者の解放と帰国を実現するため、同盟国の日本と協力して取り組むよう要請する。成功すれば歴史的な外交成果となり、家族たちに正義をもたらすだろう」として拉致問題を政権の優先課題に位置づけて取り組むよう求めています。
書簡をとりまとめたひとり、民主党のジル・トクダ下院議員はNHKの取材に対し、「拉致被害者の家族の苦痛と悲しみは親として想像を絶する。真実と正義、被害者の即時解放を求め、心から連帯の意を表する」としています。
拉致問題は、ことし2月に行われた日米首脳会談でも話し合われ、石破総理大臣は、トランプ大統領から解決に向けた全面的な支持を得たとしています。
