中国系の動画共有アプリ「TikTok」が親の同意なく子どもの個人情報を収集していたとして、アメリカ司法省が訴えていた裁判で、司法省は21日、TikTok側が日本円でおよそ636億円を支払うことで和解したと発表しました。

この訴訟は、TikTokと中国の親会社バイトダンスが、子どものメールアドレスなど幅広いデータを親の同意なく収集していたなどとして、アメリカ司法省が2024年に提訴していたものです。

訴えによりますと、13歳未満の子どもの個人情報は親の同意がないかぎり収集や利用が禁じられているにもかかわらず、TikTokは子どものアカウントからメールアドレスなどを収集し保持していたとしています。

また、親が削除を求めても多くの場合対応せず、社内にも適切な規定が整備されていなかったと指摘していました。

この裁判について司法省は21日、TikTok側が、4億ドル、日本円でおよそ636億円を支払うことで和解が成立したと発表しました。

発表文では、TikTokは、司法省に提訴されて以降、年齢確認や保護者による監督の強化に向けて取り組みを進めてきたとしています。

そのうえで司法省は、「今回の和解によって、長期間に及ぶ訴訟がもたらす遅れや不確実性の影響を受けることなく、アメリカの家族は、より強力な保護措置の恩恵を受け続けることができる」とコメントしています。
